Radio shows are shows that are broadcast on the radio to entertain people. These shows also give people information about various incidents happening around the world. A news broadcast, for example, informs people about the happenings locally, around the country, and the world at large. There are different kinds of radio shows. They are either based on drama or music, and can include talk and quiz shows. There are also live commentaries of sports events. Drama shows include dramatization of historical events such as world war stories about brave soldiers. Social issues are also dramatized and telecast. Sometimes, there are debates on current events in the country and also around the world. Drama can also be fictional. One famous example was Orson Welles' broadcast of his War of the Worlds story in October of 1938 which caused a panic amongst many of its listeners. Music shows include classical music, country music, pop music etc. Audience participation is also a part of music programs, where the audience can ask for their favorite songs to be played on the air and also dedicated to their loved ones. Talk radio is conducted periodically to discuss all the main issues affecting the society and the country. Sometimes, the happenings of the senate are also telecast. Quiz shows are also a common broadcast. Sometimes, there are serious quiz shows that help people improve their general knowledge. Sometimes a quiz is conducted for fun where the audience is asked to identify famous personalities by revealing their physical description etc. A common theme of talk radio is politics and/or debate regarding the state of the nation. Radio shows also include interviews with famous personalities from different fields. They are invited as in house guests by the station for these broadcasts. Sometimes there are book reading programs and discussions are conducted about a popular book. Broadcasts can also include programs for the health conscious. Doctors are interviewed and tips are given on how to lead a good and healthy life style. Beauty tips are also given for the beauty conscious ladies. Some broadcasts discuss the environmental problems we are facing currently and how they can be resolved. For those busy working people, traffic bottlenecks and accidents on the roads are also announced over the air. This helps people avoid busy and congested roads during peak traffic hours. Religious programs are also a common theme. Sermons and lectures are given by religious leaders for the religiously inclined. Some broadcasts have programs on natural history and culture. Thus radio shows have a wide variety of programs in their kitty. But with the advent of television, radio has in many cases taken a back seat, though it continues to remain very much a part of modern society.
